Let It Be * A Serious Post

My nature is to build others up – in fact, according to the questionnaire, my “spiritual gift” is exhortation/encouragement. I like this about me! But after 40 years and lots of ups and downs in my blessed life, I believe sometimes you have to…
LET IT BE
When someone is sad, let them cry
When a man is proud, don’t burst his bubble
When a person is excited, don’t bring her down to earth
When  an individual says they’re being abused, don’t dismiss it and act disbelieving(take it from me, it probably took a lot for him/her to admit it)
When someone is mad, let them vent a little
When someone is loving life, don’t tell them “just you wait…”
When a girl hurts, don’t try to fix it…just listen
When a man is wrong, don’t say, “I told you so…”
When a person is ill, don’t lecture or tell them things could be worse
When someone is frustrated, let them work through it
When a man is grieving, let him be – it is personal and not to be trifled with
When a child is feeling something, don’t tell them they are having the wrong feeling; just encourage them to have a healthy response to it
When someone is being herself, please don’t try to change her – she is a unique creation of God
(And, because I can’t resist…)
When a blogger who’s usually good-naturedly (?) complaining about life writes about serious life matters, just let her be – it’ll pass…
All kidding aside, I’m grieving a loss this week of someone I’ve never met, but who means a lot to me personally. I’m just remembering the times well-meaning people have tried to talk (or guilt) me out of my true feelings, so I wrote the lines above. The greater good of it is that, hopefully, I’m learning what to do and not to do to be the best me I can be. Maybe I’ll hit it around age 96 or so – ha!  God bless and thanks for reading and hanging in with me.

Not Too Busy to Talk About it!

Know what I find funny (okay, annoying)? Those people who love to tell how very busy they are! Fascinating stuff, right? It’s interesting how it seems like the busiest folks are those who always have time to run down their entire schedule for you plus what they did yesterday plus all they have to get done next week, etc. If you’re so frazzled with responsibilities, why are you taking the time to tell me the details, huh?

The same goes on FB, where those same busy people use their status to list all they have to do (or all they have accomplished) that day. Boooooring. I wonder if they think the people who don’t give all that info about their lives are just sitting around with nothing to do? People are irritating amusing, an endless source of entertainment!

Weather Woes

We all fall into polite weather talk on occasion. It makes for good conversational fodder when there’s nothing else to say.  What puzzles me, though, are the complaints so many people seem to make about outdoor conditions. Like, who are they complaining to? (excuse the poor grammar)

No one on earth (that I know of) can adjust the temperature, the wind, the rain or lack thereof, etc. So, what’s the point of griping? Seems like wasted energy and emotion to me. Let’s just go with the climatic flow, y’all, and take a jacket and umbrella with us as we do!

Let’s Raise Those Eyes (& Standards!)

Oh, those wandering eyes of (some) men… (but better than hands, I suppose!).

How obvious can a guy be, right?! But somehow it keeps happening! I even had a guy at my former church (married to a friend of mine) who was frequently intent on examining whatever necklace I had on at close range when we saw each other (I mean he would actually pick it up and look at it!)…and he wasn’t a jeweler if ya know whatta mean.
I’m so thankful my hubby is too classy for this (thanks, honey!) and I hope my daughter will be as picky as I am, too!

Why oh why?

Yes, I offer my kids a “mud room” area at the side entrance into our kitchen! A place for their shoes, jackets and backpacks. As you can see, it’s rather stuffed with too many items currently. But guess who put them there?

Witness pic number 2…not my kids! Ha! Oh well, I guess I’ll keep ‘em anyway (the kids and the shoes!)

Game Show Grrrrrrrs

Top 5 things that get on our nerves about game shows (though we really like game shows at our house!):

5- Enough with the drawn-out drama, not to mention the utter greed!

4- Eeewwwww…I can’t stand even thinking about all the germ sharing!

3- I just can’t believe all those people miss that many easy questions!

2- Alfonso just has to be animated, whether the answer is right or wrong - “AND YOU ARE!!!…..INCORRECT!”

and the number one things that gets on our nerves about game shows is…….

1- Must the audience read each answer on the board out loud, including any “slash” and “comma” symbols?!

All that said, we still like and watch GSN regularly, we just have to roll our eyes every now and then…thanks for the laughs, gamers!

Mind Melt Mastermix

Seriously people?! I don’t need to see your stereo vibrating your car in order to hear your bass beat and know you’re cool. Just the vibrations of the earth from a mile away have already alerted me to your sick style.

Noise pollution hurts others, doncha care?

Feelings Forbidden

I don’t like to be told what to do! How bout you? I guess no one does.

But I REALLY don’t like to be told what to FEEL. In my life, there have always been those who tell me how I SHOULD feel in response to events, life, etc. Has that ever happened to you? Makes you feel pretty small and unimportant, huh?!

sad kitty

Due to my experience, I try to validate how my children feel. If they feel a certain way, that is their own personal feeling and they have every right to it! What I can help them with is choosing how to react to that feeling. And I can hold them responsible and accountable for their reaction action. But, they can still feel how they feel!

I am still being told how to feel by some people in my life, but I am so thankful God gave me a husband who wants me to be me, who wants to know my feelings about things, and who helps me determine how to go forward in the most productive way. He is such a blessing! And I’m grateful my Father always wants to know exactly how I feel and wants me to seek solace and guidance from Him.

So…how do you FEEL about what I said? Hee hee!

Random Rant Thoughts by My Kids

annoyed kids

C (8 years old) – You order a burger at Burger King and when you get home, they have left the meat out of a burger. (This really happened!)

B (13) – You’re at a movie and the screen shuts down in the middle of the show.  Everyone groans loudly and someone always yells out, “This movie is just great!”

H (10) – When people talk about being sick in detail after they come back to school from being absent.

B – I hate it when commercials lie to me.

H – Someone tells a joke that is not funny at all and everyone (but me) bursts out laughing.

C – When little kids try to show off.

W (our 2-1/2 year old cat) – When anyone sits on “my” ottoman or any of my other nap spots.  They all know where these are, why do they intrude?

Seems we all get annoyed (at least in our family)!
