Let It Be * A Serious Post

My nature is to build others up – in fact, according to the questionnaire, my “spiritual gift” is exhortation/encouragement. I like this about me! But after 40 years and lots of ups and downs in my blessed life, I believe sometimes you have to…
LET IT BE
When someone is sad, let them cry
When a man is proud, don’t burst his bubble
When a person is excited, don’t bring her down to earth
When  an individual says they’re being abused, don’t dismiss it and act disbelieving(take it from me, it probably took a lot for him/her to admit it)
When someone is mad, let them vent a little
When someone is loving life, don’t tell them “just you wait…”
When a girl hurts, don’t try to fix it…just listen
When a man is wrong, don’t say, “I told you so…”
When a person is ill, don’t lecture or tell them things could be worse
When someone is frustrated, let them work through it
When a man is grieving, let him be – it is personal and not to be trifled with
When a child is feeling something, don’t tell them they are having the wrong feeling; just encourage them to have a healthy response to it
When someone is being herself, please don’t try to change her – she is a unique creation of God
(And, because I can’t resist…)
When a blogger who’s usually good-naturedly (?) complaining about life writes about serious life matters, just let her be – it’ll pass…
All kidding aside, I’m grieving a loss this week of someone I’ve never met, but who means a lot to me personally. I’m just remembering the times well-meaning people have tried to talk (or guilt) me out of my true feelings, so I wrote the lines above. The greater good of it is that, hopefully, I’m learning what to do and not to do to be the best me I can be. Maybe I’ll hit it around age 96 or so – ha!  God bless and thanks for reading and hanging in with me.
Love and Hugs, not laughing tonight, Laurie

  1. Hi Laurie,
I found you over at Life on Dahlia Lane and wanted to say hello.

I love this post. It's such simple truths, yet things we sometimes forget.

I'm sorry for your loss. Healing is a personal process, do what is right for you.

    I'm a new follower.

  2. This is such a great post. I agree with every single point. Too often we want everything the way that we want it...instead of just appreciating that things are the way God wants them.

I'm very sorry for your loss and look forward to your delightfully cynical posts when you're ready. XOXO
